These trends are inevitable in the new year
The world of project management is always changing – but in the last two years this change has been greatly accelerated as there have been many new challenges to overcome. Also in the coming year, we will have to deal with some trends in project management. We share the most important trends in project management that you should be aware of.
1. Hybrid working models and remote work
More and more project team members work from home or are in the office only a few days a week. At the same time, teams often no longer consist of employees at only one location, but are distributed globally. This also creates new challenges in project management. The cooperation of the team has to be regulated and also the communication is not as easy as when all team members are on site. New ways must therefore be found to optimise project management with regard to remote work and hybrid working models, and suitable strategies for digital collaboration must be found.

2. Change Management
With the rapidly changing business environment, companies need to adapt. This also means changes in project management. It is becoming increasingly important for project managers to become proactive in order to optimise processes and adapt to changes. Flexibility and good communication are particularly important in this case.
3. Flexible use of different project management methods
Agile methods such as Kanban or Scrum are still trending in project management. This will not change in the coming year, because agile approaches can bring many advantages compared to classic methods. For those who cannot or do not want to switch completely to agile methods, hybrid project management is also on the rise. It combines classic project management with agile methods and thus enables the flexible use of different approaches – depending on the requirements. Project managers can thus decide which approach is suitable for a project and the team’s way of working and choose different combinations of the various approaches.
4. PMO
Even though this is not a new concept, at Parm AG we notice time and again that the trend is moving towards more PMOs (Project Management Offices). A PMO is often used to keep track of projects and strategies while at the same time handling communication with decision-makers. Especially in times of strongly changing framework conditions, a PMO can thus be a valuable support.
5. Data-based decisions
Also in project management, it is becoming increasingly important to make data-based decisions. Whether in resource management or budget planning – comprehensive data provided as optimally as possible and the appropriate project management tools help to make well-founded decisions, identify risks and handle projects in a better way. 6. Integration
With data-based decisions comes the desire for integration into different systems. So that a project management system is not detached from all other systems in a company. Rather, an integration of, for example, the ERP system or systems from accounting and HR is necessary so that data can be exchanged between the systems. This facilitates the work of the team members and enables an optimal overview of the key figures of different projects.
